The last weekend of rugby this Fall for the club couldn’t have happened on a nicer day, Indian Summer was in full effect. A nice crowd of Old Boys, families, and friends greeted the teams as they took the field. First up, the Black Holes of Calcutta took on the Youngstown team in a Division 4 match.
From the start, Columbus dominated. Great to see Valley stalwarts taking the field, Trevor Fisher, Keith Dillon, Santino Cua, and Chad Cochran among others. The mix of old boys and new players that they mentor on the field has been a great kick-start to this side.
The player of the match was Javar Bell, a former Westerville Worm that came to us this Summer through the 1823 Sevens program. Javar led from the front this Saturday by scoring 4 trys! Other rookie players that had a big impact on the game were Dwayne Sealey, a tight-head prop that slashed through the defense to score 2 long trys… damn he’s fast! Daejon Street, who punished Youngstown for another 2 try that were both longer than half the field. And Nick Perrotti, another Worm that did all the dirty work, smashed the rucks, and made the tackles.
The Black Holes won the day – 69-29!
